We have a situation.

They -- meaning "anonymous they who sent an anonymous ransom note, almost certainly Death Eaters" -- have Sturgis. For some reason, they've decided that the two of us are "planning something" and that I have until 9:53 tonight to show up alone in some alley by Hyde Park with some cipher that doesn't exist for some codes that, likewise, don't exist.

Suffice to say: what the fuck.

I'm guessing you can't see this, but it's going to be all right. I won't let them do anything more to you. ♥

I told you about strawberry fields,
You know the place where nothing is real
Well here's antoher place you can go
Where everthing flows.
Looking through the bent backed tulips
To see how the other half lives
Looking through a glass onion.

Joan was quizzical, studied metaphysical science in the home.
Late nights all alone with her test tubes, oooohohohoh.

When I am less busy enjoying today, I'll thank you lot personally, but, in the meantime: many thanks to all of you for making this birthday a damn fine one. You're all fantastic and I love you.

So I've just come to the realisation that I'm two years off thirty. Like... three, with a zero on the end, 3   0, thirty thirty. How scary is that thought?

Even being sick can't ruin a birthday. All you need's the right attitude.

If April showers bring May flowers, and September meteorological fluctuations bring October chill and rain, then why does what should be November sickness see fit to come two weeks early? Maybe it just thinks it's being punctual. Though, that answers the question with the presupposition that it's capable of autonomous thought, which just seems patently ridiculous.

[Sturgis]
Incidentally, working on a potion while having sneezing fits was not one of my better ideas. At least it was just a batch of Hangover Potion, so I didn't lose research and it cleaned up easily. And it didn't get on anything of yours, I don't think, though it did get on the sofa a bit. But, as I said, it did clean up right quick, so there's really nothing to fuss over.

Exploding at the ickles in 3... 2... 1...

...Incidentally, did we really need whatever mug I just knocked off the table? Because I knocked it off the table. I didn't look to see what happened to it, but I'm pretty sure it broke.

Didn't we just talk about posters last weekend? I'm pretty sure we did. And I'm pretty sure most of us were involved in those discussions and came to the conclusion that, for various reasons, petty bitch-fighting in poster form was not okay.

So... would someone like to explain why there are posters of Narcissa Malfoy, offering her up as some sort of sex object?

It is not a good idea to experiment drunk.

Experimenting with food drunk however is quite productive. I now have several interesting pan-Asian takeaway concoctions and I think that in the process of getting them there could've been quite the mess on the table, but there isn't, which is good because I don't want to clean it. Or wouldn't want to clean it. If it were there. Which it isn't.

No, no it's not there. Just looked back and checked the table and no. No, there is nothing there. Well. The rest of the whiskey is there, but that can be fixed. And all of my concoctions have been put away. Except the one that has to simmer overnight, but that's one of the concoctions I'm not going to play with drunks. Mostly because playing with it while it simmers is a Very Bad Idea. And a bit because I'm drunk.

And because this potion's purple and purple would very much not look that nice on the flat decor. Vibrant, yes. But not that nice.

I think I want a pet. But that's probably a bad idea that I won't have come morning.

I love you lot. I love you lot sooooooo much.

You know what's fun? The changing of the seasons. I took a break to let one of the experiments simmer today and just wandered around outside, and the leaves aren't all changing just yet, but they're changing enough that you can start to see it -- and cold! It is legitimately getting colder! I actually needed a scarf and jacket today, which is saying quite a bit because I have an absurd tolerance for cold, and it's thrilling! I can't wait for it to start snowing -- and, yes, Sturgis and Ted, there will be a SNOWBALL FIGHT. Several, in fact! Standard rules of engagement, naturally, and all that fun noise. I'll remind you two when we actually have snow to concern ourselves with, but mark me -- there will be snowball fights. Reckoning will be had for the accidental-but-debatably-so ice-ball I got in the back of the head in January.

You know what else is fun? Linguistics. At least looking at some parts of it -- and, really, I suppose I mean something more along the lines of the history of languages and why certain things are the way they are. I've been thinking about silent letters a lot, recently. Like the P in pterodactyl, and the G in gnu, and the O in opossum. What's the significance of having the extra letters? I mean... okay, they look nice, but they don't have any effect on anything. Except for cheating at Scrabble, I mean. Honestly, can you imagine the score you'd get for working "pterodactyl" into a game? I can't be arsed to do the math right now, but it's a pretty hefty score.

I'm coming by Headquarters tomorrow morning. Who wants what?

Take this or leave this as you please, Jamie, but you're doing a really great thing for everybody else's collective sake. It takes a lot of strength and tact and I wouldn't have enough of either to do it, and I really, truly respect you for the fact that you're doing it.

When's the next time you're coming by Headquarters? I'll meet you there and you're getting a hug.
